My daughter is doing the 40 hr Famine, Please sponsor her!

Its a proud moment in a mum's life when your 11 year old announces she is doing the 40 hour famine. To be completely honest, I wasn't sure that she was serious about it at all. I thought it was something she would talk about for a day because all her friends were doing it and she would be over it within 24 hours. However, she has surprised me and she is still talking about it non-stop and she is making plans for her embarkment of this mini-adventure that will take place next weekend. She has proclaimed that she will do without food, furniture, and talking and technology for a full 40 hours. Is it wrong of me to want her to do it, so she doesn't talk for 40 hours?!! The furniture means she can't use furniture at all, but I think we might limit this to her bed. As for technology, it means no Ipod, not computer, no TV, which I think will be a great experience for her as she use many of these on a daily basis.

Naturally, I am very proud of her. She is showing true signs of maturity taking this on and I am more than happy that she is wishing to pursue this so she can understand what life is like for children her own age on the other side of the world. I know we can all remember our own parents telling us to eat our veges and all our dinner because there are starving children in Africa, which by no means was no lie, but an over used line none the less. I still remember to this day footage of children dying in their mother's arms in the Ethiopian famine and kids with oversized bellies and sunken eyes. It was rather haunting, and I remember feeling terrible and rather helpless.

If are you moved by the cause and would like to sponsor my daughter, go HERE. She has set herself a target of $400 and I would really like to see her meet this target and I know it would give her the boost she needs to keep up her goals for the full 40 hours. I'm a proud mum and I best be going or I'll tear up and fog up my glasses!!

You must be so proud of her! The 40 Hour Famine is such a great cause and it really helps children understand the real issues of poverty and famine in this world. I remember doing it at a similar age and it left such an impact on my life.

Thanks Grace, I am very proud of her! She is so happy that her donations are growing. She said today, " If I reach my target I can feed a family of 5 for 10 months". You have to be proud of a comment like that:)
