MOTHS IN THE KITCHEN PART TWO

I don't have a lot of time, but I did want to update you on the moths in the pantry post I wrote earlier this year. I cleaned out the cupboards and killed any moth in sight.

I then purchased the sticky moth trap which cost about $10 from Woolworths. You get two in the pack and they are super easy to assemble.
After a day or so I noticed a couple of moths on the sticky strip, then I forgot to check after about a week or so and WoW!

What a filthy surprise, there was a good half dozen of them on each trap and I each day there are at least two more stuck! If I do catch a moth in sight I kill it straight away.  It may sound harsh to some, but these little buggers will take out your flour, rice, pasta, nuts, sugar, dried fruit, biscuits, basically anything you store in your cupboard that is not in a hard plastic container with a secure lid. So in order to protect your food and the money you spend on keeping up your food storage, then you have to do what you have to do!

SPECIAL MENTION!!!!

I am so happy that I got a special mention from NotquiteNigella on the BlogThis challenge no.32 that I entered. Congratulations to Amy Wells who won judges choice and meandering bad mother who won members vote.  Its just exciting to have Lorraine Elliot check out  my blog and read it!!! Thanks to all who have peeped at my blog, read through, and made comments it makes me so happy to see people take the time out and view my little place on the web.
I have changed my title to my website name. If you go to foodmuster.com you will see the "coming soon" title. I am yet to get my very busy hubby to connect the blog to the domain, thats the first step for now.
I am sure you are probably thinking, "why can't she just do it?" My answer, however sad it may sound is, hubby is a computer nerd (a hot one I have to say), and he can do it in minutes while it would take me a whole day to work it out! So hubby it is!!!
We both are very busy and my spare time at the moment is taken up with my son's birthday party which will be happening this weekend. I do intend to blog about it because I have had some amazing bargain experiences. I wish I had the time to make some great culinary master pieces for the food but for one I don't have time and two, 7 year old boys couldn't care less what the food is, so why bother!!! Anyway I will catch you up on that later.

GOOD OL' COMFORT FOOD

Who doesn't love tucking into some good comfort food. I, like so many people out there, love food and best of all, I love food that makes me happy, warm, and nourished. There are so many different foods that I love and love to justify as comfort food. I am a big sucker for some hot chips with chicken salt and if my kids aren't with me(which is rare) a splash of balsamic vinegar. I would consider myself a well balanced comfort food eater. I do love my sweet stuff. I enjoy the good old chocolate, pastries, especially with custard (but not so much the cream!), ice cream, gelato, lollies, you name it. I also love my spicy food. I love a good red, green or even yellow curry. I love mexican with extra jalapenos, and I love a good pasta with chilli paste. So yes, a bit of an all rounder I would say. That being said, for this weeks challenge, I want to introduce to you my latest comfort food obession. These little lovelies are easy to make, not too time consuming and taste sensational. Everytime I make them, I love them and everyone who eats them asks for more!!  I present to you all, Oreo and MintSlice truffles.

I will admit, that I have borrowed the idea from Bakerella's recipe for the cake balls. I have used that for my inspiration for the mint slice truffles and I have previously done TimTam truffles and Monte Carlo truffles. Basically, you could use any favourite biscuit you want. The best part about these lovelies, is that the ingredients you need are pantry/food storage items. I know you don't put cream cheese in the pantry, but it does have a long shelf life in the fridge. So you can purchase it on special and use it later down the track and they are prefect to make for presents, parties, or last minute gatherings, or unexpected guests.  Anyway, the recipe is as follows:

2 packets of Mint Slice biscuits(or biscuit of choice)
125g of cream cheese light or original its up to you
250g of milk/dark/white chocolate

Method
Break up biscuits in food processor and process until biscuits are resemble bread crumbs

Add the cream cheese and process again until all is combined and mixture is moist.

Refridgerate for 1/2 an hour.
Then roll the mixture into little balls and put on tray with baking paper on it.

The above pic was the oreo mixture, I forgot to take a pic of the Mint Slice ones. They kinda look a little bit like kangaroo droppings, don't they! LOL

Melt chocolate. I do this by using my microwave. On high for 1 minute, stir. Then 30sec and stir and another 20-30secs and stir until smooth.
*Note: I found with the white chocolate, I had to add a bit of hot water to make it smooth.

Take each ball of mixture and dunk into melted chocolate, coat and put back onto baking tray. Repeat with each ball then refridgerate until set. Enjoy!

PS.This is for my BLogThis challenge no. 32 and because I wanted to blog it anyway!!

BLOG THIS CHALLENGE NO. 31 MY NEW SUPER POWER

This is a blogthis challenge I wanted to take part in because its a common thought of mine on too many occasions to count, what kind of powers I would love to have that would make my life so much easier.

I would love to be able to interpret baby talk. How lovely would life be if parents and carers could understand everything their children said from day 1!

One of my fav shows when I was younger was Bewitched. I've always wished I could have one of those noses that Tabitha has on Bewitched and her figure would be lovely too!!! If all it took was a little twitch of the nose, my nose would be the busiest one in history!!!

I really enjoy swimming and all throughout my life I have wanted to be able to swim and breath underwater.  I think that would be a soothing power to have. Wouldn't it be amazing to just plunge into water and dive deep down where the calls of nagging children and other responsiblities get some what muffled, then eventually silenced, and all you need to do is stay there and take in the serenity!!!

CRAFT FREEBIES

I am really getting into this Freebie spirit and since I love to craft, I have come across some great sites that offer free downloads and the like. So I thought I should pass on the love and let you all in on some great places to get some downloads to add to your crafty stash. These downloads you can store on your puters and just need a colour printer to make them pretty! In the spirit of craft freebies, while you do get them for free the unspoken law on this type of thing is you don't reproduce them as your own or sell them as your own designs, which I am sure none of you will do!

I have mentioned paperglitter before here because I think her work is so absolutely bright, funky, and of course so irresistably cute. She always has something cute for free on her  free downloads SITE. Check out her cute valetine items, cupcake toppers and stationery, and so much more.

You will also find some interesting vintage labels at this SITE and this SITE for free wrapping paper downloads. I also thought a cute candy/goodie box was cute on this SITE.

I hope you enjoy these freebies and do come again, I will do my best to pass on as many as I can. Happy Crafting:o)

FREE SANITARIUM COOKBOOK

I mentioned this in the previous post about free stuff, but I wanted to let you know that I got my cookbook last week and I am very impressed with it and highly recommend you get yourself one too. I have already made one of the recipes, Vege Satay and rice, this is my title not theirs! But if you are into food storage recipes, this is a great one to have on hand.  All the recipes are vegetarian but meat can easily be added to most of the recipes, but it is good to know there are some great recipes that are healthy and easy on the budget.  Sanitarium also offer a free service to help with any nutritional information one might have. Anyway enough plugging, if you live in Australia use the link to grab your 100% freebie!

I have just realise that the above link is for the download, try the link in the previous post to see if they are still sending the actual books, if not, the download will still be good.

I will be posting pics of my latest recipe soon.
